Malia Hope Schmalleger and Joseph Martin - Student Co-Hosts

(Above: Malia with Student Co-Host Joseph Martin)

My name is Malia Hope Schmalleger and I am currently a freshman at William T. Dwyer High School in Jupiter, Florida. I am tall for 14-years-old, beating out most of the boys, at 5’10”. Everyone tells me that I look like a high-fashion model, and it’s true – I do like clothes!

My hobbies include taking my dogs to the beach, hanging out with my friends, listening to music, reading and writing. I scored a 5.5 (out of a possible 6.0), recently, on my creative writing skills while taking Florida’s FCAT. I guess I take after my grandfather who is a successful author of many college-level criminal justice textbooks.

In the future, I may work in the field of criminal justice myself. I took law classes as an elective at Independence Middle School, where I created “mock trials.” I visited the West Palm Beach County Courthouse and witnessed actual trials there. I hope to one day have the opportunity to be a part of the justice profession, perhaps as an attorney.

In the meantime, I enjoy listening to One Direction, a “boy band; “ and non-stop reading of fictional novels that use artists in the band as characters. I was inspired, and created my own online fictional novel, and to date it’s had over 100 reads. I have also decided to try my hand at acting, because I think it could open up future opportunities.
